US Gov Pledges Cyberspace War

The White House is issuing a new "cybersecurity coordinator" into a sector of government dedicated to the security threats faced online. This sector is to monitor technologies such as spyware, malware, spoofing, phishing, and botnets, which President Obama referred to as "weapons of mass disruption."

The President echoed concerns with the Bush administration's strategies and debates on wiretapping without national boundaries. As a result, the federal government is expelled from regularly monitoring "private sector networks" as these networks are the center of America's communication.

The President stated, "in this information age, one of your greatest strengths - in our case, our ability to communicate to a wide range of supporters through the Internet - could also be one of your greatest vulnerabilities."
