Concept: Outsourcing Technology Oversees?U.S. corporations have used India as the technology hub for customer service and support centers for over a decade, but today companies are finding the hidden costs outweighing the labor benefits. Though India gives diplomas to 500,000 engineers annually, many have encountered difficulties in finding top engineering talent. It is “estimated that just a quarter of India’s computer engineers {have} the language proficiency, cultural fit and practical skills to work at multinational companies.” (source: Wall Street Journal Online) Some corporations have found further need to employ U.S. managers to oversee their India teams. With time difference delays, frequent flights, and long distance phone bills, outsourcing can be more costly to companies than originally planned. Picnik gives the “casual photographer” editing photo tools that can be saved locally, emailed, or integrated into other photo sites like Flickr, Picasa, Facebook. This application is not meant to compete with editing powerhouse Adobe or to service professional photographer needs. Rather, Picnik offers the standard edits such as crop, resize, sharpen, rotate, and red-eye with more bizarre features like heat map, focal soften, matte, borders, doodle, infrared film, and gooify. Currently, Picnik is in its testing phase and allows visitors and users 100% free access to all features. The creators have mentioned that once the testing is complete, members can purchase extended tools for a minimal annual cost.
